Self Care for the Winter Solstice
21st December is the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the shortest day of the year as we have the least hours of sunlight, giving us the longest night.
The Winter Solstice is the perfect time for a little pre-Christmas Self Care, to go inward, honour your connection with the natural world and to rest and recharge.
Why not take some time during the Solstice to spend with yourself? To bring a little sunshine to yourself in the depths of winter, to boost your mood and bring a little positivity into your day.
Here are some ideas to create a Winter Solstice Ritual.
Go for a mindful walk
Take yourself outdoors for a lovely long nature walk. Soak up some Vitamin D from the winter sunshine, stretch your legs, notice all that you see and hear around you, and breathe in the crisp, winter air.
Journal
Journaling is a fantastic and therapeutic way to soothe anxiety and lift your mood. Find a peaceful spot where you can take some time for yourself and jot down your thoughts and feelings. Write anything down that pops into your mind - perhaps it might be thinking about what’s worrying you or what you’re looking forward to in the coming year. The Winter Solstice is the perfect time to reflect and reset, so it is a great time for setting intentions for the year ahead.
Make a calming cup of tea
Curling up with a warm mug of something delicious is the perfect antidote to cold winter weather. Brew yourself a cup of herbal tea, something calming such as Chamomile to help you to unwind, decrease anxiety and encourage sleep.
Run yourself a bath
There is something so rejuvenating about soaking in an aromatherapy bath. It gives you a perfect combination of comfort and peace, allowing you to soak away your stresses and worries, and helps to relax the body and mind.
Create your own light
On the shortest day of the year, bring a little of your own light into your home. Lighting an aromatherapy candle brings light and warmth indoors, and the fragrance from the essential oils to help you relax, unwind and bring in joy.
